TECH LATEST - Windowless planes: that terrifying future of flying?

An artist’s rendition of a “windowless” plane.

NERVOUS flyers prepare to be freaked out the more: aeronautic designers are working to remove windows in planes to save weight and fuel. Less than a decade from now, it’s hoped smartscreen panels will line the inside of plane fuselages.

The Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) is in the early stages of developing lightweight display screens that would replace windows with virtual views of the sky outside.

Plane windows are surprisingly heavy due to the reinforcement needed to stop them snapping in the extreme temperatures caused by altitude changes. CPI has calculated that for every 1% reduction in weight on planes, there’s a 0.75% fuel saving. Add up every window on a plane and that’s big dollars.

Released - BUY USED CARS FROM UNITED STATES TO NIGERIA

A new online service offers an easy, reliable way to buy used cars from the United States and have them shipped directly to Nigeria.
Carporter is a secure platform that allows users to view an inventory of thousands of tokunbo cars that are immediately available for purchase and export from dealers in the U.S.

Once a buyer makes his or her selection, Carporter handles the entire process from start to finish, including vehicle inspection, title transfer, document processing, secure payment, and logistics.
Carporter CEO Ilya Fridner says: “Buying a car is complicated enough when you’re in the same town as the seller, let alone when you’re thousands of miles away.
“Carporter eliminates the hassle. We offer transparent pricing and no hidden fees, so you know exactly how much you will pay upfront. There are no third parties taking a cut.”

Fridner and co-founder, Igor Drobyazko, created the Carporter concept after realizing the automotive export industry was wrought with problems. There were too many steps in the process and unnecessary middlemen, Drobyazko says, and it was easy to get scammed. So, they came up with a brand new way to shop for cars overseas.

FAQ's - What Is Nigeria’s Postal Code?

One of the major reasons why letters, parcels and goods are not delivered to their right destinations is that they are tagged with the wrong postal codes.

Postal codes in Nigeria are numeric, consisting of six digits. NIPOST, the Nigerian Postal Service, divides the country into nine regions, which make up the first digit of the code. The second and third digits, combined with the first, are the dispatch district for outgoing sorting. The last three digits are for delivery.

The main postal head office in each region will have a postal code ending in 0001, so Garki Main HO in Abuja has the postal code 970001

Is the Apple Watch the Next Huge, Medium, or Mini Hit?

Is the Apple Watch the Next Huge, Medium, or Mini Hit?

The Apple Watch isn’t going on sale until next year, but already everyone from Wall Street analysts to luxury fashion executives is trying to handicap future sales of the ground breaking device. Among the finance set, estimates range from a few million to almost 40 million in the first year of sales. “The detail that went into the design, including the watch bands, is impressive and not fully appreciated yet,” UBS analyst Steven Milunovich wrote in his assessment of the watch. He sees 24 million sold in the first year and 40 million in the next year.

One of the most optimistic analysts, Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald, expects Apple will sell 37 million watches in the first year, outpacing the 20 million iPads sold in the tablet’s first 12 months. “We believe Apple Watch will prove to be a home run with the fastest, new product, first-year unit sales volume in the company’s history,” Fitzgerald said last month on CNBC.

EASY JOB SEARCH - New Mobile/Web Apps That Improve Your Online Job Search

New Startups That Want to Improve Your Online Job Search

In the past several years, mobile technology has simplified a wide range of the cumbersome, time-consuming, and unpleasant chores required of the professional class.
There’s Homejoy to clean your apartment, Uber and Lyft to hail a cab, and more food delivery apps than you can count.

But for all of the solutions created to improve the lifestyles of affluent urbanites, finding a job — the initial step that makes such a lifestyle possible — remains a lengthy and universally miserable process.

Sure, massive job boards like Monster and CareerBuilder alert us to an unprecedented number of potential openings — but who wants to give up hours of their precious leisure time crafting the perfect cover letter, only to submit the application into the Internet equivalent of a black hole?

Why Twitter Is Handing Your Tweets Over to MIT

Though the slogan works for marketing diamonds, perhaps it’s more accurate to say that the Internet is forever. Your LiveJournal from 2002 can still be found, and so can the picture of you from that one night you can’t remember (even though you took it off Facebook).

Now, every tweet ever made public, starting with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey’s first tweet in 2006, is subject to scrutiny by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Laboratory for Social Machines, which aspires to have a better understanding of how information gets disseminated through social media platforms like Twitter. The Wall Street Journal reports that the university “plans to build data visualizations, mobile apps and other tools to ‘create new forms of public communication and social organization.

Facebook Apologizes, Announces New Guidelines for Experimenting on Members

Hot on the heels of its sweeping apology to the LGBT community, Facebook has apologized to its members for conducting emotional experiments on them. You may recall that back in June, the social networking site found itself in hot water for conducting a study in which it filled some News Feeds with positive posts and some with negative posts to see whether it impacted the tone of these people’s subsequent posts. It was essentially a test of emotion virality.

The backlash from that study caught Facebook by surprise, and it scrambled to respond to its users’ anger at becoming de facto guinea pigs. It was an important learning moment for the company. “We were unprepared for the reaction the paper received when it was published and have taken to heart the comments and criticism,” Facebook CTO Mike Schroepfer wrote Thursday. “It is clear now that there are things we should have done differently.”
