FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia's Lumia 2520 is its first foray into the tablet market, and sees the firm competing against Microsoft, the company that recently bought it.
Before you get too excited at the prospect of owning a Nokia-branded Windows tablet, it's worth noting that the Lumia 2520 isn't a full-blown Windows tablet, but instead runs Microsoft's limited Windows RT 8.1 operating system.
However, Nokia seems unfazed by this, and claims that thanks to its unique design, custom apps and Pureview rear-facing camera, the Lumia 2520 manages to stack up in the competitive tablet market.
DesignIt might be Nokia's first 10in tablet, but the Lumia 2520 is unmistakeably a Lumia device. Although we got our hands on the not very exciting black model, it will also be available in red and cyan, a departure from the slew of black and white rectangular devices on the market.
Although we didn't manage to turn many heads with our plain black model, it's still a good looking tablet. At least in the case of the black model, the Nokia Lumia 2520 casing is coated with a rubberised polycarbonate material, similar to the Nokia Lumia 1520 smartphone.


While a nightmare for picking up fingerprint marks - we found ourselves cleaning the Lumia 2520 at least twice a day - the rubberised casing means the tablet feels more robust than most, and it feels comfortable when held in the hand.
We did find that our arms began to ache after using the Lumia 2520 for prolonged periods of time however, as it's not the daintiest tablet on the market at 615g, although it is lighter than Microsoft's Surface 2 tablet. Its wide screen also means it can be awkward to hold while gaming or streaming a film, especially when compared to Apple's iPad Air and the Google Nexus 10.
Display
The Nokia Lumia 2520 has a 10.1in IPS LCD widescreen display with Full HD 1920x1080 resolution and Nokia's Clearblack technology.
With a pixel density of 218ppi, the 10.1in screen on the Lumia 2520 is not the best display on the tablet market, and we noticed some signs of pixellation around the edges of text. Another slight gripe is the 16:9 aspect ratio, which won't appeal to all tastes.

However, it is one of the more impressive tablet displays on the market, with the IPS screen offering excellent viewing angles and resistance against reflections. Nokia's Clearblack technology ensures that blacks are deep and colours are vibrant, and we found the Lumia 2520 one of the brightest tablet displays on the market.
